Welcome to the Chippenham Shed
Who are we?
The Chippenham Shed is a registered Charity (Charity Number 1180371).
We are a community space for adults (18+) to connect, converse and create. Traditionally, Sheds are perceived to be the domain of men but Chippenham Shed welcomes women.
It provides an opportunity to have friendly chats, some laughter, share experiences and make new
friends all over a cup of tea or coffee.
The Shed Trustees are:
- Frances Blackmore - Chair
- Mike Thornton - Treasurer
- Philip Carter
- Hubert Dias
- Graham Coe
- Norman Johnston
- Mark Phillips
Where are we?
ln April 2023 we signed a lease with the North Wiltshire Bowls Club for the old Westcroft Community Centre.
The building had served as a social meeting place for local residents for at least 40 years.
Its structure required significant repairs, including replacing rotten wood, insulation, and plastered walls.
Renovation improved the building for our equipment use and shed social activities.
Major upgrades included painting, electrical rewiring, new windows, improved exits, porches, and a dust-extraction infrastructure.
Equipment Acquisitions
Chippenham Borough Lands, Morrisons, Chippenham Town Council, and the Wiltshire & Swindon Community Foundation have supported the growth of the Shed by providing generous donations that have enabled the purchase of major woodworking equipment, including a planer thicknesser, table saw, bandsaw, sander, and dust extraction equipment.
Formal Opening of the Chippenham Shed
The formal opening of the Shed took place on 26th January 2024, with MIchelle Donelan, MP, cutting the ribbon. The event was attended by the Mayor, Declan Baseley, Councillor Liz Alstom, representatives from Wiltshire Council local supporters and members of the Shed. Refreshments were kindly donated by local businesses.
